How Responsive IT Services Help One Nonprofit Fulfill Its Mission
For the Frisbie Senior Center, maintaining data, keeping hardware up-to-date, and making technology accessible to visitors is a big part of its mission. And for Executive Director Steve Samuelson, finding a responsive IT partner was key to meeting those challenges.
“We work with a senior population that’s not always familiar with technology,” Steve said. “A seamless operation that runs without hiccups is essential to serving this demographic.”
Steve also wanted a secure solution for managing proprietary data. But when he joined the organization, the IT situation was far from ideal. “We had a part-time IT tech with limited experience, and our email accounts were hosted by a local school district. That made me uncomfortable because a third party had access to our internal data.”

When Steve called Chicago On Call, he already had confidence in their ability to fix Frisbie’s broken IT system. “I knew Luke Whited, Chicago On Call’s President, from our work at a previous organization,” he said. “When I saw what we were facing at Frisbie, I brought them in right away.”
And the results? Steve calls them “phenomenal.”
“We were using tape backups, an archaic way of doing things,” he said. “They helped us design an offsite backup solution that’s reliable and protects our proprietary information. That, and they manage our servers and have us up and running with a reliable, modern email system.”
Steve also likes how Chicago On Call communicates with clients. “They break down IT problems so they’re easier to understand, which is perfect for working with a non-technical audience,” he said.
Delivering value to clients
When it comes to value, Frisbie’s relationship with Chicago On Call transcends traditional IT support and computing services. According to Steve, Chicago On Call encourages its other clients to donate retired computer hardware directly to Frisbie.
“We’re a 501(c)(3) organization with a limited budget,” he said. “Having their other clients help us this way creates a win-win situation and shows that Chicago On Call really understands its client portfolio.”
As far as Steve’s concerned, Frisbie couldn’t have found a more reliable, valuable IT partner. “They really care about their clients and go out of their way to understand their needs,” he said.
